Self-Tying Bow Tie Instruction

Here are the step-by-step instructions for tying a bow tie

1.   Prepare the Bow Tie

2.     Drape the bow tie around your neck

3.     Ensure one end is about 1-1.5 inches longer than the other end 

4.     The longer end should be on your right side

5.   Create the initial knot     

6.     Cross the longer end over the shorter end

7.     Bring the longer end underneath the shorter end and up through the neck loop

8.     Pull the knot relatively tight, positioning it just below the collar button, resting the long end on your shoulder

9.     Form the Bow Shape

10.  Fold the shorter end horizontally across the collar to create the front of the bow tie

11.  Take the longer end and drape it over the center of the horizontal section

12.  Create the Bow

13.  Fold the longer end horizontally to create the other side of the bow

14.  Hold the center of the bow with your thumb and forefinger

15.  Complete the Knot

16.  Push the folded longer end through the loop behind the shorter end
